Jamie, Brian + Baby Zoey | Maternity + Newborn Session

There's not much I love more than getting to document your families as they grow which is why I looove when clients chose to do maternity + newborn/fresh 48 packages. It's like I get to be apart of the anticipation + excitement that comes along with preparing for a new baby and then to follow that up with actually getting to see your gorgeous new offspring, and you and your partner in your new roles as parents AND capture all of those teeny, tiny, precious details?! It's the best you guys, and such an incredible honor.

Jamie + Brian gave me the privilege of coming along for their journey into parenthood, starting with their maternity session back on an uncharacteristically gorgeous December evening + ending a few weeks ago with their newborn session welcoming their absolutely beautiful baby girl, Zoey. Here are some highlights of Jamie absolutely killing the pregnancy game (seriously - how gorgeous is she?!) and because I can't leave ya without a dose of baby fever, enjoy a sneak at how perfect baby Zoey is!! <3

Alina + Mira | Fresh 48

You guys already know my obsession with baby toes so I'm sure you can guess how over the moon I was to be photographing TWO sets of BRAND NEW (!!) baby toes for this twin fresh 48 session!  As you can see, Victoria + Matt were just smitten with their absolutely perfect new arrivals + the feeling was contagious. I've said it before and I'll say it again: best job EVER.

Fresh 48s you guys. DO THEM. I promise you won't regret it. But I'll stop preaching and let this gorgeous new family be all the convincing you need ;)

365 days of hudson + huey | personal work

I'm going to keep this short and sweet. HURRY UP SPRING!!! We are trying our best to beat the cabin fever that comes along with midwest winters but man has it been tough.

Here's a little look at what we've been up to the past few weeks. If you want to follow our daily adventures, head on over to instagram and say hi! :)

Hope you guys are staying warm!

personal work | my heart

Hey babes!

If you follow me on social media, you know that I suffer from something known as "take-too-many-damn-pictures-itis" (the struggle is real, y'all!) Seriously, I love documenting my boys; they are the reason my business is what it is today, after all. They're my original muses, my (relatively cooperative) guinea pigs when I want to try something new; my constant source of inspiration with their hilarious antics, and I firmly believe that shooting them daily (or daily-ish) has led to so much of my growth over the past year. I get to be fearlessly creative when I'm shooting them, try new techniques, play with light and shadows... in a nutshell, it's fun, and beyond that I have so many awesome images of their childhood that I can't wait to share with them when they're a bit older and better able to appreciate them (THEY BETTER APPRECIATE THEM!)

So, although I generally hate winter because it gets so cold here that your face hurts just walking from the house to your car; my hair and skin and nails are so so so so SO dry; it gets so dark so early and the days can be so gray and just blah...winter is one of my favorite times of the year to shoot, because with the slower season comes more time to spend on my personal work. And, as much as I don't love being cooped up in the house, I do love the challenge it presents to see and use light (as little as we may get here in the winter *cry face*), in new ways. I'm a sucker for shadows and the depth and emotion they lend images, so as much as I love a good golden hour or a bright and airy room, it's finding those little pockets of light on some of the dreariest winter days and using it to showcase a juicy little face feeding his dinosaur some candy hearts, for example, that really makes my photographer heart happy.

Here's a little look at what I'm doing when I'm not shooting your beautiful families.  <3

Evans Family | Lifestyle Family Session

I want to start out by saying that this session was in December, you guys. DECEMBER. IN MICHIGAN! I'll give you time to pick your jaws up off the floor if you're not from this great state; meanwhile, all my Michiganders aren't even batting an eye because well, #pureMichigan. ;) By some miracle, Mother Nature allowed us one last absolutely beautiful weekend before she bestowed her wrath of winter upon us. I am so happy I got to spend it with this absolutely adorable family!

Jessica emailed me earlier in the fall to inquire about a session, noting that her family had recently moved + they were planning on surprising their girls with a puppy and a kitten (!!!) and they wanted to document this exciting new chapter. Was I available to do this? *CLEARS MY ENTIRE SCHEDULE BECAUSE SHE SAID A PUPPY + A KITTEN A WOULD BE THERE!* Seriously, I had so much fun hanging out with these cuties at their beautiful home and exploring their gorgeous property (that tree, though!); the puppy and the kitten - not pictured here because she couldn't go outdoors - were just the icing on the cake :)

Here are a few highlights from my perfect winter evening with the beautiful Evans family.

Karlene, Brett + Baby Asher | Maternity + Fresh 48

Hey babes!

I can't believe how long it has been since I have posted here! Between our big move, an insane fall shooting season, the holidays + Huey turning two (TWO! How?!), time sure has gotten away from me the past few months + unfortunately blogging has had to take a backseat to adulting :( #lame. The good news is that I have lots of gorgeous faces + squishy babies to spam you with now that I'm back! :)

Up first is this beautiful new family of three. I first met Karlene + Brett back in October when I did their maternity pictures and a few short months later I got the call that baby Asher had arrived! I was able to make it up to the hospital on Christmas Eve when he was barely a day old to do his Fresh 48 session + as you can see, he was perfect! Talk about the best Christmas present ever :)

Enjoy a few highlights from their fall (fall! Do you guys remember that time before it was so cold that walking outside for 10 seconds hurt your face? #goawaywinter) maternity session + their Christmas Eve Fresh 48. Side note: you'll see baby Asher in a stocking in some photos below; his mama Karlene actually had her photos taken as a newborn in the exact same stocking. How perfect is that? *all the heart eye emojis*

Cox Family | Lifestyle Family Session

The Cox family was pretty much a dream-come-true for a family session. When Mom contacted me, she mentioned she really wanted candids of the kids being kids versus more traditional portraits... AKA sign me up! Now, I love me a beautiful portrait, but you guys know I can't resist a good game of parachute or ring-around-the-rosey! So, that's what we did. We ran and twirled and told secrets and laughed about who has the stinkiest morning breath (I'm held to secrecy on that one! ;)) and most importantly - there were lots of cuddles. Like I said, dream. come. true.

Listen, I know family pictures can be stressful. You're trying to coordinate outfits and schedules and when you have small children, you have no idea how they'll react when faced with a stranger wielding a giant camera for an hour. But, I'm a firm believer that amidst all of the chaos that inevitably comes along with family photos, they should also be fun. You shouldn't be yelling at your kids to sit still and smile at the camera for an hour. You should be making memories with them. You should be playing with them and loving on them and letting me capture all of those smiles and snuggles so that when you look back on these photos one day, you won't have a wave of panic wash over you when you think of having to do this again. Instead, you'll remember all of the fun you guys had together and hey, you may even call me to set up another session sooner rather than later because that's how much fun I am ;)

If you're still not convinced that family photos can actually be - gasp! - enjoyable, here are some highlights from the Cox family's adorable session to further convince you :)
