Ann Arbor Photographer | Why You Need to Print Your Portraits

What do you do with the images from your session(s)? If you’re like many people (myself included! Shhh…), you probably get as far as sharing your images to social media, and then they go to die in the digital wasteland that is your hard drive. I know that’s the convenient option and in a digital age like we’re living in, it makes sense that we want the ability to share beautiful portraits of our family, digitally. But there are so many reasons why you should print your photos!

For one, hard drives crash; phones and tablets can get stolen. Years of documentation can be lost in the blink of an eye. Uploading things to a cloud certainly helps remove some of the risk with storing memories digitally, but not all of it. Technology is not perfect and should a platform go kaput, there’s no way to reclaim your images once they’re gone. That’s devastating!

There’s also the benefit of having family pictures around your home and the boost it can give to kids self-esteem. Research has demonstrated that seeing photos of their family and themselves around the home can provide a sense of belonging and reassurance, as well as delivering the subconscious message to our kids that we’re proud of them. My kids love going through their first year albums and asking “oh my gosh I was that small?! I had no teeth?!” (šŸ˜‚) And if you’re doing it right, albums now-a-days are not only memory-keepers, but they also double as home decor. I keep mine out on display, that’s how gorgeous it is …just out of reach of Rowan because I’m afraid of what she’ll do to it šŸ¤Ŗ Beyond being beautiful conversation pieces, what could be better than letting your kids know they’re valued and an important piece of your family unit?

This is why I offer the options to purchase gorgeous heirloom albums and framed fine art prints in addition to the digital files from your session. Your photos should be on your walls, in your wallet, on your coffee table… somewhere where they, and the precious memories tied to them, are tangible and accessible; so they can be seen and shared and enjoyed for generations to come.
